• Kayak Trip Report, I-65 Slough

I fished the slough on the North side of the Tennessee River under I-65 this morning. Once I got to the slough I found it had been pumped down lower than I’ve ever seen it. I almost gave up before I started with only 12 inches of water in the slough and large carp and buffalo everywhere, but decided to give it a chance since I’ve caught so many good crappie from the hole over the years.

Well, fishing was great with many missed, a limit kept and several more thrown back. Best bait was a 1/16oz jig head with a Chartreuse Bobby Garland body. I spider rigged 6 poles again with baits just below the surface, maybe 8 or 10 inches deep.

I believe you could catch crappie in a horse trough.
