If you don't have a bait tank to keep them alive you can cut them on a fillet board and put them in a zip lock bag on ice. Cut shad will last a couple days on ice if the tail section is cut off.
We drifted some spot locked some, fish some flats and went to the channel, there was four of us and we used live perch, fresh shad that we caught which was about 3 1/2" size and we also cut some frozen large 10" shad using heads, gut pockets and chunks. The fresh 3" did the best job. We put our live perch on some jugs looking for flatheads but did get a channel and couple of small blues. Lost a jug to log jam, recovered the jug but had to cut the line so not sure what we got there but could have been a flathead that got back into the logs.
