Thread: need some advice

Have an 8 ft ugly stick and am needing a SPINNING reel. Something with some type of baitrunnner or bait feeder. A reel that its capacity could hold enough 30 or 40 lb test line. All I have right now are crappie poles and small channel cat poles. Want something to go after flatheads and blues. My channel cat stuff, 30 or 40 lb flathead or blue would walk right through it. Use 12 lb test on the channel cat poles that I have.

Shimano Baitrunner or Penn Live Liner

A lot of the carp guys like Shimano, but the Penn's are very good, too.

With right drag you can land big ones on light tackle

Hard to beat Penn reels. Solid drag and brass gears, which you need especially fishing strong current. It's one of those deals you get what you pay for.

hard to beat a penn for a workhorse reel. plus penn colors will match an ugly stick near perfect and most of em wont break the bank.

Cabelas Salt Striker

My catfish reels are all less than $50. I bought a Penn Pursuit on sale for $30, and it feels rock solid compared to my other catfish reels.

I've been buying the Yoshikawa CY6000 and 5000 series to match up with my ugly sticks. They have the bait feed feature 11 bearings and handle 25# test mono . I like P-line for its strength and smaller diameter. The Okuma Avenger is about $50.00 at Cabelas if ya catch them on sale great for Stripers and cats.

Penns are great, i have 2, 750ss. They are rock solid and hold plenty of line. They have a great drag, but They are very pricey though. Found the penns on ebay, used but in very usuable at half the price of new ones.
