Real nice fish.
You just never know what kind of bonus fish will come along when fishing for crappies. Being able to land a monster like that shows real skill with the light tackle.
Up here where there are flatheads, they seem to stop biting as it gets colder in the fall and then only resume after it warms up in late spring. Some folks take channels through the ice; so they will bite year around, but I have never heard of anybody taking a flathead up here in winter. Even after ice out the real summer bite for channels starts quite a bit earlier than for flatheads. We used to think that channels and bass didn't bite in winter either, but that was wrong; so maybe the idea that flatheads don't bite then around here is also.
