Default When do you start baiting holes ?

Most of the lakes I fish the water temp. is in the 50's now. When do you do the best at baiting a hole. Does the water need to warm up more ? Do you fish for them at night after you bait a hole or will they hit in the daytime. I am wanting to try this , but know nothing about it. Any information will be appreciated. Thanks and good fishing.

the water temps are in the high 40's right now, on the lower missouri. and the fish are still bunched up in their winter haunts, in huge numbers! you first have to find the right place to fish, but once you find em, they are all right there. no baiting required. the guys I know who do chum holes dont drop a chumsack until around may or june, just before the spawn. this keeps them on good fishing throughout the spawn. they abandon abandon baiting all together once the fish are in a late summer pattern, except for during high water times.
