Got my plates on the rod box lids, they take 100% of the weight and are holding up fine and they are 26 years old, you should be fine.
I know you dont want to here it but you are buying your last boat, get in the 20 foot range and up and have it spacious and comfortable, make momma happy. You are a blessed man, your wife is your fishing partner and when fish pretty much whenever, the majority of us dont have this, make the lady happy!!!
