You keep on and excell is going to hire you to accessorize there boats. But then again maybe you have already thought of that.

FISH ON:fish
Check out this step set up. I was doing some more searching around today. Looks like it would work like a charm on your boat also and be simple. Make both steps in diamond plate and you would be styling and profiling even more than you are now. And, from what ive read I think you could do it for less than $40 total.
Helps if I add the pic
That install on those steps sure simplified things. I may need to look into that. I wish this stupid weather would get back to normal. The lightning has run me off my project again. I spent today licking my calf over. I hope some members are satisfied now. You know who you are:Rofl To make this really annoying, I'm going to go into detail on the bungee system to hold the tips of the rods. This may be the very best part of this boat rigging.
First I disassembled the rear holder.
Attachment 133611
I then drilled the hold for the bungee and also on the bungee placed a piece of heat shrink around the cord to protect it as it passes from the inside of the tube to the outside.
Attachment 133612
Once the ball is inside the tube, I just reassembled. The fronts, I handled a little differently. My goal is to be able to lock them. I want the outlaws to work if they decide to carry off my rods while I'm in Walmart buying twinkies. My hold down piece is a 1/2 inch steel rod encased in pipe insulation. I drilled and tapped the inside end. The outside end will just insert into a hole in the tube to hold it in place. At the present, they are still not lockable.

Genius!!!!!
Great idea!
Sometimes solutions are a whole lot simpler than what you imagine. I needed a solution for locking the transport holders. The solution was nothing more than a 90 degree bend in an eye bolt. In my mind I had already created at least a half dozen complex contraptions to lock the rods. What a waste of brain energy. The idea came upon me just like how the farmer found his cow "all at once".

Got the caps in and installed so the rod holders are finished.

Debated whether to just go with the transducer on the transom which works well with the 2 sonars networked but ended up deciding to try a second side imaging on the trolling motor. Way back in the day, an Arkansas member (lovin fishin I think) came up with a way to route the transducer cable through the slot in the terrova shaft. This is a selling point for the Terrova and the Humminbird units since the cable on the Lowrance is too big and the powerdrive doesn't have the slotted shaft. All you gotta do is just disassemble, route the cable and reassemble. The instructions are actually in the electronics forum. I do not glue the cable in the shaft. Strategic use of tape and zip ties will cause gluing the cable to not be necessary. This is complete except for routing the sonar end of the cable. I will not do this until I check the operation of the transducer. If it works ok, I'll drill an additonal hole in the switch panel and route the cable under the deck to the 998.

Looks great RCC. One thing i noticed that you might want to do is take a dremel and put a smooth corner on those zip tie edges. I started doing that when I use em and it works great. If I dont I seem to always be getting caught on or grabbing those sharp edges.
You're right. Everything that has an edge does seem to snag. I've already had the dremel tool out and a few more minutes with it will make the zip ties look and work better. I also need to run by lowes and pic up a whole hand full of nylon acorn nuts for the exposed bolt ends.
I did check the trailer to see if the steps would work out, and I think they will. I think I will go with some 3/8ths smooth and rivet on a thin layer of tread plate. This seems to be the easiest and most available way to get the strength I want. Now to find a piece of that vinyl looking stuff to wrap the edges in.
Another question for someone is about buying a spare tire. I'm looking at online at etrailer.com I can add a few things to it and get it over $150 for free shipping. I think the tire is $130 something with a galvanized rim. It is a 14 inch tire. If anyone has any other sources, I'm all ears.
In between work and more work, I worked on boat accessories. Academy had some cheap drift socks so I purchased just to see if they will actually work. I have never used or seen one used so I added a blue pool noodle and called it good. I gotta get rid of those noodles some way.
Attachment 134493
RCC, just a suggestion. If that sock does not have weights and your putting that noodle on top to float it, wire tie about a 3/4 oz weight to the bottom straps to help it open up.
Getting closer. A little wash job and started stowing the rods and gear to go fishing.

HULL OF A JOB...HULL OF A JOB!!!
I got a WarEagle 1542. She has been a good war horse who needs a facelift.
Problem is I keep seeing cypress trees and water off my front porch. I got to stop fishing for a bit to get her back into crappie nagging shape. It's hard being addicted to a jig pole. Hi I am Russ and I am a crappie and Jigaholic.
Great job! Now go fish.
Looking good RCC!
I like it!!!!
There is no known cure to man or woman. The only thing you can so is to slowly treat the condition by returning to the scene of the last lapse into the condition and make as many cast as possible or troll as long as possible then remove the catch to a place of future consumption. Then call me and let me know what time dinner will be read.:Rofl
Boat is certainly looking good.
FISH ON:fish
Hey RCC, Your right it is late but the wife and I are usually up every nite until 2 or 3 in the a.m. and sleep late. She is retired and i have been off for 16 mths. I only have 10 mths until retirement becomes official. :dono
FISH ON:fish
I guess I'll stay up to keep you out of trouble:biggrin
Doing a little clean up. Had the charger roped and zip tied to the fuel tank. I suspect this was not up to mariner code:Rofl. While I am restricted to land access only, I thought I would try to fix it. There ain't much room left under the turtle hull with all the junk in there, but I got the charger mounted and the mass of wiring zip tied into some semblance of order. Next I will tackle the hood area and see if I can organize the storage and wiring that calls that end of the boat home.

Looks like you have everything on that new boat but the kitchen sink. Oh if there was just a little more room.
RCC, do you have a kicker motor?:biggrin:biggrin
Yes, but not mounted. It's a 4hp mercury. Haven't found a need for it no longer than it takes to crank up a limit.:biggrin
I actually use the 4hp for low water duck hunting, but could use it as a kicker. I have looked at the mount and see a way to mount it with no additional holes and steer with the terrova. I may do it one of these days.
Ok guys, need some help. Have a friend that has a 2011 Tracker 175 Crappie model. Wants to go to a Terrova 24. Looking at battery compartment looks almost impossible to put 3 batteries in there. Is it possible? Does anyone have pictures? Thanks.
I can hardly wait to get these Driftmasters installed. A little work today to see about the fit, then maybe the finish tomorrow or in the next couple days.

This is what I was building in the garage all these cold months. I built the rod holders and the double seat mount and the rod rack myself Im proud of myself saved alot of $$$ doing it myself.:highfiveAttachment 151892Attachment 151893Attachment 151894Attachment 151892Attachment 151895Attachment 151896
Made a rigging change on the Excel. I have added the Driftmaster 5100 to the rear. Removed the back transport holder that I had made. Modded the 5100 to hold the rod tips and also added a second level for another rack of rods. Used a TV mast clamp and a piece of round aluminum tube to make the lower level holder.
Attachment 157445
Oops. Forgot the most important part of the above. No holes mounting. Bent 1/4 aluminum then drilled and tapped a 3/8ths hole for the 5100 mounting rod. Backed the bottom of the bracket with an additional 3/8ths locking nut on the bottom of the mounting rod. It ain't goin' nowhere.

Nice mount RCC. That T rail is the best thing any boat builder ever came up with.
