Yeah, I wouldn't use more than a #4 hook (maybe even a #6) and probably hook them behind the eyeballs. BUT, if they are Silversides, I can attest to the fact that even recently dead ones will get bit ... and, in fact, I have used the larger ones, cut in half, with similar results. Now, mind you, this was an experience from decades ago, on a local lake & during the spawn ...also, when I was a kid, my Grandparents and I would net them at night & Crappie fish with them with good results.
