Size matters!
I say that because it’s two-fold.
First, it’s easier to learn with a shorter rod. I started with three mr crappie 10’ers from academy. $24.99 each with reels. Trying to manage 3 poles @ 10’ each was tough, especially when bite was on. But you eventually catch on then can’t wait to find a deal to buy longer.
Second part- as everyone mentioned above, further from the boat is always better. Spooks fish much less.
I love spider rigging and invested in longer, better quality poles and gear. My son doesn’t like it and would rather single pole.
Make sure you like it before investing too much as you usually will not recoup your initial costs if you don’t like and sell out.
