What you are asking is for what I call an "all around rod". Jig fishing, floats, maybe long line troll if needed. 4lb hi-viz mono or 6lb braid for me. I prefer the mono unless I am casting jigs to open water, then I like the braid for the added sensitivity. The braid is very weak around structure though, you bump a mussel covered dock pole or stump and it will chew that line up to pieces, so I like to use mono for the most part.

I have yellow mono (crappie maxx mostly now) on all of my mono rods, crappie usually don't care and its easier to see light bites when the line twitches or starts to run sideways. Also easier to see multiple lines when trolling. If I am fishing super clear water, I just tie on a short clear leader.
