Help me pick my fishing line

I agree of it aint broken......

All of my crappie reels have 6# Suffix mono, high visibility yellow. I dont catch many bass when crappie fishing so Ive been thinking of downsizing to 4# line next year.

I use #4 mono for open water, above brush/trees, and #6 in the brush/trees. The main difference is drag setting and how long you fight bigger fish. Don't muscle them and they wont break off. I use a net for all big fish, regardless of line size.

Maybe ill keep 6# on my dipping rod and switch the rest to 4# next time I respool. Is 4# too light for float fishing?

I use 2# test line almost exclusively. Casting distance is paramount to me using jigs in the 1/64 ounce range. I also use the 2# test for smallmouth fishing. It is rare for me to break a fish off....landing a ton of Smallies each year in the 18-21 inch range....so 4# test is not too light....IMHO.

No, I slip bobber fish 90% of the time. Even in the thick stuff.

good set up ...now rig another pole a real with # 4 pound test mono for the lighter jigs. I have one rod with 6 pound I use with a slip bobber and I remove that an throw small crankbaits with ; the other with 4pound with a jig tied on it.
