Posting GPS coords of fishing spots that were given to you in implied confidence by other members is not a good idea, as one of our board members found out a couple of years ago. That same member has recently been discovered copying lake pics from facebook posts made by my son and sending them to his buddies in the hopes of recognizing a spot or two, even after being told flat out where we caught the fish......and cruising by guys fishing a favorite top on certain lakes with his side imaging in order to save that waypoint and make the top his own later down the road.......it's incredible the tactics some folks have to use in order to catch fish. Collecting information but not giving out any of your favorite spots in return is just as bad. Just use common morals and integrity and you won't have a problem. 99% of the guys on here are great well meaning folks that will help anyone.......just make sure you are not being taken advantage of!!!! With a little practice you will learn to spot the slick talkin' "takers" pretty quickly.

Posting GPS coords of well known "community fishing spots" or those clearly marked on maps available to the general public is not going to do any harm. What does, or potentially can do harm, is posting GPS coords of "hot spots" you may have found, or even pictures with identifiable background scenery that isn't common knowledge. This is what causes the problem of gangs of people rushing to those spots & doing some unsportsmenlike activities.
Sad as it is to say ... there are those that troll sites like this, hoping to find those specific spots & information, while not joining in & sharing with those that are members. Many of them are what we call "meathogs" ... that care nothing about size or number limits, or even putting forth an effort to find these spots on their own. They don't, or won't, become members ... simply because they have no interest in sharing the resource, just abusing it for their own self interest.
Some state forums even have specific sub-forums for the sharing of such information, so that only members are able to view the discussions & information. Texas doesn't happen to be one of those states with the private sub-forum, but there are several that do have them.
