Beautiful fish! I'm envious that I don't really live in smallmouth country. There are a couple of streams a three hour drive away and Pickwick about the same distance, but I never really find the time to work in the day trip required.

Last week my oldest son Matt and his longtime friend Cody took my kayak out for a few hours. My son called me about 1:00 pm and said they were going to head out fishing with the kayak. What a great day they had landing a bunch of smallmouth and a few pike. They released most of the fish, but did bring home one 5 fish limit of smallies and one keeper pike.

It is not about the equipment you have to use,
It is about how you use the equipment you have. :D

^^^^ what he said except I am way further removed from smallmouth country.
Nice. There's not many good smallmouth places to fish near me either, but fortunately I'm near a river that happens to be full of them. Picked up a few myself yesterday. One good size one and a few small ones. Not as good looking as that stringer though.
Thanks guys. My sons and I sure have a riot with all these smallies. So far this season we have landed just over 100 that were over 14 inches, with the largest being in the 18 - 19 range. No real whoppers yet, but the September and October bite can produce some great fish. Great time of year for waterfowl hunting in the morning and smallie fishing during mid day. We only keep a fraction of those for a few fish fries, and release the rest for another fight another day.
