Our family spent the weekend at Lake Chicot at my parents camphouse. My other boat has been hanging in the boathouse and I am giving that boat to my son David so we will now be able to fish in separate boats when we fish together. It is a 17 ft ProCraft with a 80 hp Yamaha so he will be able to outrun me on the water! I went to Lake Washington Sat morning and caught lots of fish (including around 20 Drum) and had a limit of good quality sized Crappie culled down by 11:00. I think I caught around 45 Crappie in all...the smallest one I kept was 12 1/2 inches but most were better than 14". I trolled with 6 poles and had as many as 3 crappie at a time on the poles...it was a blast! My friend from Crossett was over there in his boat and had his limit of keepers about the same time I did. It took us a little bit to figure out the right jig and color but when we did the Crappie didn't have a chance! I was back at the house on Chicot by noon! My largest went a little over 16 inches and weighed in at 2lbs 5 3/4 oz. I had four that went over 2 lbs. They are still on the thin side but are trying to fatten up. Atticus, our 3 1/2 yr-old grandson went to the lake with us and I spent the rest of the time helping him catch a load of bream. David really clobbered the bluegill over there Sat morning while I was at Washington. There were 2-3 bream by every cypress tree just down the lake from our dock. The bottom third of that 60 qt. ice chest is full of hand-sized bluegill. The rest is ice and Crappie. I intended to try Grand Sunday but the wind was up plus I wanted to spend some more quality time with Atticus.

Steve that sounds like a really good weekend and a great mess of fish too. Love to see those grand kids catching fish. Thanks for the report and the great pictures.
A bad day of fishing
beats a good day at work.

I don't Crappie fish in Chicot very much but just for the heck of it I took my youngest son to ditch bayou Saturday when I got back from Washington. We trolled the entire length of Ditch and all I caught was one striped bass. I tried lots of different colors but didn't find anything they wanted. I had heard a rumor at lunchtime that a guy from Monticello had really mopped up on them that morning in Ditch using shiners. He may have been fishing the tops and laydowns....I trolled down the middle.

great job on washington! We were down on Chicot a month ago, and couldn't find hardly any crappie. mopped up on cats, but we were trotlining. hope that drawdown this year helps the fishing. I have had the worst luck when i go to chicot the past couple of times, don't know if I'm just hitting at the wrong time or what, but all I seem to catch is yellow bass when I'm pole fishing. We always do well catfishing, but running trotlines has turned into a lot of work.
Good going Steve.. That's puttin' 'em in the box! Wind ran me off Grand this morning but I only had 12 keepers with some nice ones when I quit. I'm going to Washington tomorrow morning.![]()
WTG Steve; you're KILLING me, LOL
I'm going to Washington this weekend. Time to move my trailer to Melwood. How deep was the water you caught your fish in?
Way to go ....keep up the good work with the grandson and catching those slabs!
