Thread: when is enough, enough?

Why is it that these "sportman" crappie fishermen (and women) forget about ethical ways of catching crappie during the spawn. I was at Horseshoe yesterday and spoke with a man who said he was on his 3rd. 40qt. cooler of crappie that day!! What is it that makes people forget about limits on these fish during this time. Horseshoe has a generous limit of 50 per day, but with these type of people, limits mean absolutely nothing, and that's so sad. I can't speak for other lakes, but this lake cannot endure this type of overfishing year after year. If something isn't done, the memories of slab crappie here will be just that, memories. It just makes me sick.

I would have taken his boat numbers or license plate number and reported him flat out! The fish cops need to pay him a visit...especially when he is cleanin' 'em.

Everyone needs to operate by the rules.

Two ole' boys were caught with 150 crappie below the dam at Millwood last year and they made 'em pay BIG TIME! It's about time the fish cops did something besides hassle me about checking my license every time the wind blows a different direction.

I have spoken to a couple of the game wardens in Howard county. They usually do not mess with you on the water, not saying thay will not, but I know a couple of guys that lives down the road from me, they lost everything, boat, truck, yo-yo,s and also paid a big fine and were barred from fishing for a while due to their fishing habits. The wardens were waiting for them at the boat ramp. They had 150 yo-yo,s out, claiming they belonged to 5 guys, but the 5 guys must be in the boat also and they were not.

Thanks for reporting the incident to the GW. Thankfully, I've never had to do it...but I'm sure a day will come when I run into your situation.

I agree! I get so sick of hearing about people taking more than they are allowed, just for bragging rights. Just because you catch them doesn't mean you have to keep them. They could just as easily be culled and the largest ones kept for eating. This is the one thing that really gets me stirred up.

For one guy to fill up 3 40qt coolers single pole fishing at horseshoe in one day, all I can say is he must have had alot of ice.

Yeah it's sad someone has to do that. I guess they hardly ever get a fish in the boat so they're making up for those dry trips. Who knows? You're right they'll ruin a place like that in a very short time, look at 9 mile (Burnt Cane).

no way they caught 'em out at 9 mile. i was catching the heck out of them judt before the water came up and have struggled after it went down. People have been game hogging at horseshoe since there was a 'shoe and it doesn't seem to matter. More likely to overpopulate than get fished out.
