Thanks, We went Sunday and caught a few small mouth, one crappie and 5lb catfish. I just need learn how to read the fishfinder. I do have the map but how old are those beds? And are they still there? We were fishing with the Tennessee Shad grubs. Thanks!

Some of those beds are still there. You might take a look at Lowrance's website, I believe they have some good information on reading fish finders, sonars, etc. As I'm sure you know, the crappie won't respond to the tennessee shad very well with the water being so murky now. You might try chartreuse shad, popsicle, acid rain, or red/black/chart right now. Hang in there!

Yes, contrasting colors seem to work best in stained to muddy water. I use an orange/black/char hair jig.

Thanks, My boat has black and white older Humminbird Wide View Fishfinder. I would like to get a color fishfinder. Just don't know what to get? Looking at the Lowrance X510C?
But thanks for the help. And also for the jig colors.

    Default Hamilton

I went yesterday afternoon and was catching them about 8ft deep around brush with minnows and Tenessee Shad grubs. The Lowrance LCX510 is great! I have one on the front of my boat and I love it. They are on sale now at Bass Pro shops.

I would suggest getting the Hamilton map at Trader Bill's. It shows a bunch of brush pile locations and that could make your trip worthwhile.

I don't fish Hamilton, prefering the solitude of Ouachita. From the sound of Razorback33's report, Hamilton is ahead of Ouachita by a few weeks. I was on Ouachita yesterday and did find some 70 degree water. I belive the blacks have spawned out but the five big mommas I caught were all white crappie and all still had their eggs.

That makes me think they'll be on the beds for the next 10-14 days.

Some day, I may try to learn a little about Hamilton and Catherine. Have a good, safe trip.

Get you a Hamilton map and look north of the 70 bridge. It comes in from the west.

    Best o' luck,
