I never have been on Pepper's Lake. But, I have a story about it. I finally convinced a fellow that lives in Lonoke to go fishing with me a few years ago. He knew all about Pepper's Lake and wanted me to experience it. We bought two tubes of crickets on the way at his suggestion. So man, my anticipation was growing. We drove through all of the delta farm land before we found the steepest boat ramp I have ever seen. He assured me that it would be alright. (If you find it, besure and be nice to any one with a 4 wheel drive truck before you launch.) To get to Pepper's lake, you need the river to be a certain stage and know which group of trees to push and pull your boat through; or at least you did back then. I spent half a day looking for that group of trees. We finally called it a day. But.....my little S10 I was driving back then would not pull my boat out of the water. The rear was too light and it was just spinning the tires. Here is where I was glad I was nice to the guy that lived at the top of the ramp. Without me even asking, he arrived with his monster truck and pulled us out. I gave him $5 and all of our crickets (buckets and all) and have never ever wanted to go back to Pepper's lake again!!!!

Peppers Lake is kind of private. Meaning when the river is up and you can motor through the trees and get to it, you can fish it. But when it is land locked, only the property owners around there have access to it. My best friend and I used to yo-yo in that lake during the winter because we knew an old timer there named Robey that let us launch our boat at his cabin. It is a pretty lake and we did pretty good on yo-yos. In my opinion though, there are a lot of better lakes on the White than Peppers to fish.

One of my good friends is one of the property owners there. It is a private lake. My buddy has a heck of a nice duck blind there and hunts it quite a bit. He's had to run several people out and even gotten court documentation in order to prosecute trespassers. But it has been a great place to duck hunt. It's a mile and a half long oxbow that doglegs and parrells the White.

He's right. I used to fish the lake religiously because I have a cabin about 200 yards from the lake on the river. Its a great lake, however they dont let anyone fish it. I talked to a guy that lives near the boat launch and he does really well fishing peppers basin, which is right there around the boat ramp. If the White drops below 23 ft its near impossible to get in any of the oxbows around. You can try Millers Lake which has its own ramp. You just have to cross the White on Hwy 70 and drive through the refuge. Happy Fishing!
