    Default Safety concern

Just want to ask everyone to make sure they wear their cords for the kill switch. I was in a river channel yesterday and hit a stump. I was thrown out of the boat and WAS NOT wearing the kill cord. The boat turned several circles with me hanging on the side before I could get it shut off. I'll never operate a boat again without wearing this safety device and I hope all of you will learn from my mistake. I was in 60' of water and the water temp was 44 degrees. I did have my life vest on, but was very lucky the boat or propeller did not get me. My wife and children were very close to not having a husband and father, because I didn't use a safety device.

Glad you're alright, thanks for sharing and the reminder. I usually use mine, but have forgot.

I was on some rough water Sat. and had my life jacket on. I reached down and wrapped my kill cord around my wrist. This may or may not have worked.
Thanks for posting what happened to you and I'am glad that you survived your ordeal. This should be a lesson to all of us just how easily things can go bad on a fishing trip. Leave that kill cord hooked to the life vest and that way when you put the vest on to run the big motor your ready to go. Just remember if the big motor won't crank check to see that the kill cord switch didn't get pulled. Happened to me twice over the years.
I don't follow these rules all the time myself either. But his experience has sure made me think about using my boat more safely.

Glad to hear you are OK. And as a Safety Director for a company, you would think I would wear mine. I'll start!

Oh lord brother man!!! Glad your ok! Know the feeling did the same thing 4 years ago while deer hunting on the white river. Let go of my motor for a second to bend down to grab something and hit a log. It was in Oct and wasnt that cold but it made me a safety freak for life now!
