    Default Alumu. boat redo maybe

    Nasty weather huh.

Think I'll miss around and carpet the alumu. boat in this weather before spawn time, which I miss every year lol.
Bought a used Lowe boat the kind were the seats sets down low in the boat.In the front it has a small platform to step on,then steps down onto another platform with seat and another step down is the live well and behind it is another seat.Looks like it would make a good pan fishing boat.Someone has put turf as carpet,I'm replacing with indoor/outdoor.I would like to figure out a way to put a cooler where the fisrt platform is,in fornt of the first seat.I would also like to do away with the live well, although it would make a good platform for a seat.I guess I could put the T.M. battery in the live well to keep it out the way.It doesn't look like there is any safe spot to lay your rods while fishing,I like 5/6 rods laying handy.

Anybody have any easy ideals on how to place rods in this kind of boat?

Build a vertical rod holder for use while you're fishing. They work really well. Then you can lay the rods down when you're driving to and from the lake. Scrapper has a really cool design for vertical rod holders that are simple to make. Just a trip to the local home center!

pictures, pictures, pictures!...lol. I love redoing stuff..done a few boats...its alot of fun. Great time to do it if you have some heat somewhere. I've gotta get my rodholders posted on here sometime. Boat under the carport covered. I'll try to do that this week. They work really well. And with the exception of the rod holder itself the rest is really easy and CHEAP to build. I also have a vertical rod holder built out of PVC for running the lake...and some minnow bucket/tool holders that I built off of what Jerry and Darryl have in their boats. I'll try to get some pics up soon. Like to see some of yours. Make it fun...no limits...do it the way you want it the first time....I've learned that on the ones I've done...don't talk yourself out of something because it looks hard or would be alot of work...because then you'll be wishing on the water that you had done it. Good Luck!! Need any help with anything let us know!

I make my own out of pvc pipe, using pipe, elbows and T,s.---My side railing on my boat is alumium also so anchoring them is no big deal. I use about 1 1/4 inch pipe and 4 way T,s, just big enough for the handle to fit in snug. I drill a small hole in the T on each side to adjust the angle and just put a pin in it to prevent it from moving.

Some may disagree but live wells for fish and bait are no good in the summer--I took mine out. I use fish baskets over the side and stro-foam coolers for minnows while in boat. I also use a stro-foam floating minnow basket with wire mesh around it.

Adcocks Distrib. Co. on Broad St. in Texarkana is a great place to get supplies

Yes pictures would be better but..

As long as it has two seats a place for two coolers couple tackle boxes, two batteries, fuel tank and a safe place to lay 5 or 6 rods on both ends of the boat issssss all I want.Have a pro tracker with storage and tw0 live wells big enough for the grandsons to hide in and its setting. They are good boats with pennnny hiding spots for stuff and room enough to have a party on.Like to have wore it out when I first got it,thought I was the king of the hills fishing out of it.For their size they float pretty shallow, fished alot of shallow oxbows with it.But one day while fishing out of a tin boat I just fell back in love with them.My fishing buddy even has a pro boat and both of us had rather fish out of the jon boats.Between us we have 3 jons with 25hp and one bigger jon with 40 hp jet.The only mod we done to all of them is build a front deck, our rods can lay on the seat by you and the tips lay on the next seat up or back.We can just strap them to side of the boat while going and coming from the fishing hole with one strap, the seats hold the butts and tips.

The boat I'm recarpeting hasn't any bench seats,it has floation thingy in the back sticking out,a live well sticking up in the middle which is in the way.Heck fish don't care if its fancy or not just as long someting in it is being throwed out looking like food lol.I'll figure something out as to how to lay 5 or 6 rods handy and safety while fishing as to grab one quickly to give him a different color.

    Default Rod Holder

This is what I have on my 16 Ft. Crestliner, which is a wide and deep jon boat but it is heavy about 600 lbs, plus motor--100 gauge alum--double floor and sidesAttachment 22542

Hopefully you can see the diagram. The caps on the bottom are mounted on the railing with a screw and insert the pvc pipe into it---drill a hole in the side of the cap--elbows and T,s-- and insert a screw or pin or nail. I do not glue mine in case I decide to move them. My boat has a console, so I use pvc pipe also as holders for the bottom and cut out the front in another piece of pipe big enough to insert the rod inside of it. It is a 2 pc. system.---The pipe will protect the eyes on the rods. I use about 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 pvc. My holders are mounted to the side of the console standing vertical. Mine are 7 ft. rods, so going under brush is a challenge, but I have 2 bench seats with swivel seats mounted on the benches and a deck in front of the boat with a trolling motor and swivel seat up front. I do the same thing when fishing in the brush--I lay my rods on the bench seats along the side of the boat.

2X10 or 2X12 makes great benches across the boat. My boat only had 1 factory bench, so I added one.
