The Golden Rule rules, my friend. I would hope that someone would do the same for me had it been me that bought the farm yesterday. He had a nice, clean, mid-sized flat bottom with all the goodies and I'm just sure that if left there overnight, the whole rig (or at least the components and the tackle box, etc) would come up missing.

I don't think there's a soul here that would not have done the same thing. I acted because I felt empathetic towards the family, to have a member die on a Corps lake--or any lake--what a terrible loss!

I spent 40 years in Federal service, until 30 September 2008 and I reckon it's something that will flow through my veins until the day I check out.

...just treating folks like they're human beings in need. "Compassion" is a big word and without the Lord's compassion for each of us, none of us would be where we are today. We wouldn't even be able to draw our next breath or hear our next heartbeat. Compassion...we need to reflect His compassion in all that we do.

Preserving Mr. Weston's boat for his family is the least a man could do, in view of the circumstances. <><

AK, Forever I have been a believer in the adage, "Right is right, wrong is wrong". You did the right thing and I am sure the family appreciates your efforts. You did something most wouldn't even think about when it wasn't even your concern. Hats off to you, and God bless the family during this time.

We just all need to be safer with our rigs when we are fishing. I get a little lack-lustre about it sometimes, I admit. But incidents like this put things back into reality--real quick.
