Chain Lakes.....
Went to the Chain lakes Sunday and did pretty well. Myself and a buddy in one boat and my dad and uncle in another. Both boats limited out and had several nice crappie with the largest being 16 1/2 long. Several 12-14 'ers. Some really nice bream as well as some nice bass.
Crappie staging in 5-6 feet of water (near the bank). Started out on cypress trees 3-4 deep moving shallower as the day wore on to about 2 ffot deep. Fished with 1/4 oz. white heads with black eyes using a black/white skirt. Tight lined the jigs using 11'2" Uncle Buck's crappie poles and 6 lb. test line.
If you can stand the gars and mosquitoes, the fish are hitting very good.

Chain Lakes are a group of lakes on the Cache River National Wildlife Refuge. There are three or four different lakes there all lined with Cypress and are fairly shallow (6-10 ft. deep).
Take the Biscoe exit, veer right onto the hwy until you come to a T (Stop sign). Make left and travel approximately 1 1/2 miles east until you see an IGA store on your right. Make right at gravel road beside it and travel for miles down in it following signs leading to refuge. After entering refuge and crossing second low water crossing, make next left. Stay on it until you see lake on right with dirt launch or continue straight another 3/4 and road ends into creek channel. Leave launch and go left for one lake or travel through narrow channel to right to enter lake I fished. Lakes can only be fished in late spring until fall when rain starts. No big boats to run you over and most of the time very little traffic.

Lakes are naturally stocked by White River and Cache. Some of the biggest dang gar you have ever seen!100-150 lbs or bigger! lakes are known for BIG CRAPPIE!!!!
These are the type lakes I fish. Mostly due to only having small watercraft (14 ft. boats)

DANG! I wish I lived closer. That is an outstanding report with much-needed details. It can't get must better than that.
The very first time I ever went fishing in a boat was on the Cache River.

Matter of fact, I wish someone would put a sticky titles "Hot Spots" where we could post information like this. A man could go there if he is planning a trip in the next few days and look for a valid place to go!

Yup, couldn't agree more, with the crappie heatin' up and all, we need to know where the hot spots are sos we can cash in a little donchaknow.
I'm lookin' forward to some serious fall fishin...at least until the rut gets here.:p
