Default Best day of the year thus far!

Caught a limit of slabs today at Shell Lake kept fish from 12" to 17" average weight I am guessing from a 1 to 1 1/4 pounds. It only took 2 hours. fish were on the beds in about 18" of water. I wish i would have had 4 people in the boat with me, instead I was by myself. all of my fishing buddies had to work! Great Day. Some females still had eggs, 90% of the males had raw tales. I'll be there tomorrow!

Where do you launch a boat at Shell Lake? I've driven over the bridge on my way to Bear Creek, but haven't examined it closely. Isn't it pretty high now? Does it offer good fishing year 'round? Does it connect to the St. Francis?

Jimmy Medder, whom owns the gas station at the corner of Highway 70 and the Interstate just put in a nice ramp behind his station. Easy to launch right there. You can also launch behind the Valero gas station on the North side of the interstate not so easy to launch there. The water level is at full pool, it has just started to get color back to it after all the rains. It is still fairly stained but not muddy. I love fishing this little lake it really holds some nice fish. I fished the west bank today and didnot have to go very far to get in the fish. I rally like the spring fishing and the early fall fishing on Shell Lake and Blackfish Lake. Both of these two little lakes get very little pressure and hold some of the biggest crappie you will ever catch. That is a promise! If you fish it hard this time of year and find the fish it is not uncommon to find a fish scaring 3lbs to death on either of these two. I love them both there easy to fish and easy to learn.

By the way neither of these 2 lakes get water from the St. Francis mostly rain water and rice field water when they start flooding the rice fields. When they start flooding the rice fields in the middle of the summer, if you can find that cold water running into the lakes you have found the fish throw out the anchor and start fishing about a foot deep with a minnow or jig!

If you stop at Brinkley you are within 40 miles of it. It is exit 260 off of I-40.

That is about 20 miles from Forrest City headed to West Memphis. That would be quite a haul for me.

My bro in law, that lives in Wynne, should try it out.

Yes, I think they charge 5.00, the Valero is just down the road the ramp is pretty rough, but you dont have to pay.
