But at my house the males have moved up shallow and are getting the beds ready.... Fished for about 45 minutes yesterday after I got home from work and even though it was pretty chilly and very windy I caught 11 nice males.

Sorry for the poor picture quality, I used my cell phone.

Nice Male who had moved up on a shallow clean mud bank right in front of my house.

    Question Racing Stripe

Heavy Chevy,I just became a member earlier this month,I've been reading but not posting much. But I saw the "racing stripe".When I was over in the tonkin gulf in '67&'68 I got a copy of "field and stream"and there was an article about "Lonoke Crappie"which was developed at the hatchery there And when I returned to god's country(ark)I never heard or read anything since.Has anyone ever heard of the"Lonoke"

Jet62 I think the official name for them are Blacknose crappie and I guess they originally came from the Agfc hatchery at Lonoke which is just about 20 miles from my house.

Back in the 70's me and my dad use to catch them in the Saline river and at the time I had a cousin who had one of the Chevy Chevelle's that was the "Heavy Chevy" edition and it had a black stripe that ran on the hood, on the roof and down the trunk. Every time we would catch one my dad would yell out Heavy Chevy! So thats why I call them that.

When I bought my place up in Beebe imagine my surprise when the first crappie I caught was a Heavy Chevy. The one I caught in the picture was the first one I caught this year and was on my birthday so I like to think it was a little birthday present sent down from my dad from up above. I always feel like he is in the boat with me when I catch one.

Jerry they are really getting with it now, me and Miss Tammy went out yesterday afternoon and fought the wind again and caught another good mess. I figure by the weekend it will be as good as it gets!
