We fished Millwood this weekend. The water was up about 3 feet and the current was fast. Water visibility was less than one foot. It was a tough weekend with the wind.

With that being said, the fish on the river end (Wilton to White Cliffs) seemed to still be in presapawn. Water temps were 54 to 58 degrees. We caught 15 to 20 good crappie in creek channels off of the Little River. They were hittling white crankbaits in 12 to 15 feet of water. I love prespawn because they will attack the bigger crankbaits on Millwood. The river was really flowing. The rains over the next 3 days defininely will not help. We checked the shallows and caught 1 male. Other people had success around the cypress trees in 2 to 5 feet.

As a side note, the white bass bite seemed to be off too. We caught maybe 10. We usually have 100 fish days in mid-march. Some of the females did not have eggs. Some did. The female crappie all had eggs. They are almost ready. The water conditions may spread out the spawn this year. I will be willing to bet the spawn may last into late MAy on Millwood this year. The water was flowing so hard, there were islands that would just form in 5 minutes. We were stuck in the back of a cove when an island locked itself into the neck of the cove. It was 100 feet across and about 30 feet deep. I gunned it and ramped right over the top. Man that was freaky!!! We decided to go after that.
