    Default Flood

Well with all the heavy rain looks like Nimrod will rise big again. Fishing has been slow and this will not help. When it gets close to cresting I may have to set some lines in the backwaters for a fresh mess of fish.:o

Looks like most of the lakes around here won't be any good for a while. The Mississippi will likely get back into Midway and the other lakes along the river, the rain will probably muddy Old Town big time, and the St. Francis is already into Burnt Cane. With spring break coming in three weeks, I may be in for a disappointing week.

Greeson was just starting to clear up and get right but I'm sure it will be up and muddy in the creek arms again. Oh, well, maybe Mom Nature will get it out of her system now so we'll have nice stable weather and lake levels through the spawn - wishful thinking I know.

We can rest assured that Fourche Creek is clear of basket balls, styrofoam, wine and beer bottles. They all floated by my dock yesterday. The River is up about a foot from yesterday. I haven't checked, but iI am sure it is flowing over 200CFS. If it does this again this summer, I will have a toon for sale.

Big water is good for our northern resivors. It really helps the spawn, if the COE will leave it up long enough for the fry to get a start. We haven't had a good high water in Bull Shoals since 2002 and that spawn has about reached it life span, so if we don't get some high water with a good spawn this year, the crappie fishing (and walleye) fishing will go down hill next year.

If the river is in Burnt Cane it will be a long time before it clears up. I hate Horseshoe too. It's always windy when I go. Looks like greer's better get ready.

    Default yoyos

Bored and wanted to catch a mess of slabs. Something that I rarely do anymore is put out yoyos. Set out a bunch in the backwater baited with minnows yesterday. I caught a mess of Channel cats ,but no Crappie. Saw a neighbor doing the same thing. He caught a few small Crappie and a mess of Channel Cats.
Things are so bad with the lake so high and a winter storm watch posted. Fishing is terriable when yoyos can't even catch a keeper Crappie.

I hear the same thing on Peckerwood and that lake is famous for the slabs caught on yoyo's. My neighbor is wearing out the cats but he only catches 1 crappie for every 5 catfish.

If you get the nerve to pull that boat down hwy 7 let me know and I will let you know my condo locations on Ouachita.
