i am highly fond of the matrix 17. don't get fooled by the split beam though. I use the 20 degree beam exclusively. it has great resolution, it's easy to program, even able to offset depth if you are gonna put it on the trolling motor. I like the fact that it registers 10th of a degree also. this can be a big thing sometimes in locating fish. I also have a 535 which works very well also. it doesn't have the temp sensitivity though. I've had my humminbirds for a couple of years and have been very happy with them.
