    Default Lake Conway/Little Mamuelle

    Hey guys. Just thought I'd check in. I've been fishing both Lake Conway and the Little Maumelle regularly the past few weeks. Conway was incredible for bream this summer. I've been fishing Conway for over 20 years and NEVER have I seen the size of bluegill come out there that we caught through the summer. But...that's over.

    Crappie...not much happening yet. My wife did catch one medium size crappie on the Little Mamuelle Saturday at the mouth of the river. Baitfish are beginning to school up so with cooler weather it should begin to pick up.

    Gold Creek on Lake Conway is choked with schooling baitfish (back at the bridge and beyond) and are being chased by bigger fish but at the moment it seems to be small bass. Again, though, when the cooler weather sets in it should really pick up for the crappie. Of course, for those of you who fish Gold Creek you know it's not a large area and I'm sure the fisherman may out number the fish. But what the heck.

    Hope everyone is doing well. Gooch seems to be fileting wild chickens. Sounds like Chris is learning to deliver babies. Jerry's post on Lake Greeson makes the heart race.

    Take care.

    Joe

    I know what you mean about the fishermen out numbering the fish. I find it amusing that only one or two fishermen have the "trick" of the day. I bet I have close to $1000 tied up in tackel chasing that trick. I have found that it is much less stressful waiting on my day. Good news about the bream. I didn't find any red ears last year because of all of the new growth in my holes.

    Yep, I'm learning what I don't want to be when I grow up...:D

    Good to hear about the conway bream. Wish I'd gotten in on some of that...:rolleyes: And speakin' of the lil maumelle, I went out there Sunday morning after I got off "work" at 5am. I caught 6 or so crappie from my one lil' hole, but that's all I could manage before noon. The fish I found were about 13-15' deep at the bottom of the channel ledge hittin' rosies. The river looks really good. Clean and clear water, which has been absent all spring and summer. I never saw too much baitfish activity on the DF, but they must be there somewhere. I hope I can make a few short trips out there for the next few weeks. Will keep y'all updated.

    Chris - glad you were able to get out for awhile and good to see you here. I don't think I'm going to be able to make crappie camp unless I slip down late Saturday afternoon for the fish fry. I will be at Lil Maumelle or Conway first light Saturday for three or four hours. I would think this cooler weather would start to get things moving a bit more with the crappie.

    Glad you're doing well. Look forward to bumping into you out there soon.

    [QUOTE=ceb]Yep, I'm learning what I don't want to be when I grow up /QUOTE]

    That is how I measure my progress. I know I don't want to be in business for myself, I don't want to be a professional entertainer, racecar driver, load ships on the coast, etc.
    I thought I had finally found out what I wanted to be when I was 32; now 20 years later I found out I was wrong again.

    Best advice I ever heard.....
    "A young man has his own ideas and way he is going to do it and doesn't want an old man telling him how. But, when the old man tells him how not to do it, he had better listen." The voice of experience!!!
