I put the boat in yesterday, me and the son are going to catch some crappie and out of nowhere the trolling motor just dies....????? Everything else but the radio and the depth finder works ok. Just wondering if its a fuse, which I checked.... O'well anyone with any info would be appriciated..

Pulled the boat out, and my son caught 5 brim and I caught 2 good size crappie from the bank....At least the morning wasnt wasted....:D

That happened to me last spring. It turned out to be the wiring to the plug at the front of the boat. I had to replace the plug and rewire from the batteries forward. No more problem. The problem I am having is with the pull ropes. They seem to really decay in the sun, any suggestions on a UV proof rope?

    Default pull cord

I like putting a piece of small engine starter rope in its place rather than some generic rope. Its really tuff stuff. Stores like Tractor Supply have it, or your local small engine shop. Use a brass hog ring on the motor end, wont rust. Jim.

My Tracker gave me fits like this when it was new. I would take it back and no one could solve it. I finally found that the recepticle was connected with butt connectors and one of the wires was loose. Have not had any more problems in that area. I learned a lot of lessons after buying 4 or 5 batteries. You are supposed to maintain the whater in them!!

Sounds like a fuse to me, but then again I'm not an electrician. Find what all the trolling motor, radio and depthfinder have in common and you'll probably find the problem. Get the ole volt meter out and trace it backwards.

The fuse at the battery just totally fried my in-line connector, guess I'll need to replace.. It melted the fuse into the connector....

Question to any electrician....I just put a 3 bay battery charger in the boat. If the battery charger cable gets on metal, can it cause the fuse to blow, or in my case, melt?:D

    Hey TJ:

It sounds like your fuse holder isn't heavy duty enough to handle the current your pulling through it. You should have a separate fuse for you radio and graph from the one for your trolling motor. If you're going to fuse the TM I would use an automatic circuit breaker rated at the proper amps for the wiring you have going to the TM.

Just went by the dealership here and got the correct 40 amp circuit breakers...They said that if the cable off the charger was touching anything, it could cause this. They didnt say for sure. But they told me these two breakers should take care of it...Thanks for all the help!
