Default Finally Got To Fish! Pics

Finally got to get back home and do a little fishin' this morning for a few hours. Since my boat needs a battery and a little work NIMROD took me out in his boat.
We planned on jiggin' some of his stakebeds but as soon as he went to steer his trolling motor the cable snapped! Luckily, he had brought along his catfish equipment, some feed and some catalpa worms. We anchored over one of his baiting spots and although they just weren't "eatin' a hook off " we managed to catch 18 decent cats.
Once again, I'm sorry that we couldn't get the Fish "n" Eat together but due to the price of fuel and the amount of traveling that most would have to do I really want to have the time to put on a good outing including several baited areas and several new condos.
Here's some pics from this morning...

    Awesome post guys.

That bait sure looked thin, not that I have a clue about baiting a hole. I'm sure you have already posted the recipie but if not please do so. I would like to bait a hole on Ouachita to take a bunch of kids in the 7 to 10 year old range up to fish.

Also slab when you get back to work next week leave your camera with Nimrod. Sure would be nice to see some of his catches when I'm stuck working just like you.

Hey Gooch, This is actually cottonseed meal and chopped corn soured in a bucket of water for a few days. And I do mean " soured "!!
Actually in this pic he was probably just rinsing the rest out. It's not that thin.
Probably one of the best things and easist to use is " 10 percent " sweetfeed horse and cattle feed.
Here are a few more tips that NIMROD gave on another website about how to bait for cats...

Sun Jun 17, 2007 9:06 am Post subject: Baiting Catfish Holes

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We love to catch Catfish when the Crappie fishing drops off. Here at Nimrod and other area lakes baiting holes is becoming popular. The easiest is to use ''sweet 10'' horse feed. Wheat covered with water and allowed to sour works great but stinks. Some use canned dog food even.
Pick a spot known to hold Cats such as stumps on an old river channel. Start by going out the day before and dumping a sack of sweet feed over them. Then fish the next day or so with your favorite bait and little or no weight on your line. These fish feed on the chum till it's running out their mouths so anything not just right is spit out. When they feel a heavy lead on your line they let go very often. I use Catalpa Worms on a 16.5' Black Widow Pole with just a line and 1/0 or smaller hook. When we set out 6 poles at times the bite is so fast you cannot keep them all set out.
We caught 3 limits by 8.30 Friday morning over one stump and last year one day it produced 57 cats for us alone. You bait these holes every few days and the cats will come by the droves. Once in a week we caught over 500 lbs!
When you go out to fish always take a sack of feed. It really gets the fish going and makes them bite to throw hand fulls of feed out around the boat . Chum every 1/2 hour or when the bite slows and the more days a hole is baited the better it gets.
Good luck and remember to take a kid fishing. This is a good way to start a kid and build interest in fishing.

NIMROD was telling me this morning that he was having problems loading up his pics. We may figure it out this weekend. I didn't realize until I got home and loaded up my pics that I had a big smudge right on the lens of my camera. Probably catfish slime or catalpa juice.
I've got to work on a couple yards the rest of the weekend and get ready to go back into L.R. for the week.

Here's a couple more pics from this morning...

Thanks for the pics guys. Looks like y'all had a blast out there on the lake. And there's no better time to be out there than the time of the first pic.

And, it's a lot of fun catchin ol' whiskers on a 10' jiggin pole...but I'm definately gonna have to try out the 16.5' pole...I imagine that's quite a tussle...:D

Hey guys we went out and had a blast this morning. I guided for my son, his girl friend ,her parents and my woman. We fished till almost 10.00 am and it started out slow. We released a few and lost a few at the boat as we forgot the net. We still brought in 53 Catfish. Not bad for a morning's fishing trip with a group not used to catch'n many.
Slabbandit ,I got a new steering cable on my trolling motor. Thinking about Crappie fishing soon. But have another bunch to take Catfishing tomarrow. Better get you some sweet feed and get busy.
Trips available for those wanting just to catch fish.:D
