I posted a bit more of an intro. in the "General/main" folder, but wanted to say "hey" to anyone here I may have missed. We're on the east edge of Hot Springs. I grew up about 20 miles west of town, left in '80, left Ark. in '89 and recently returned. I have 2 sons, 10 and 7, the 7 year old being autistic and not much for being still but the 10 year old after me to "... go catch something good to eat!...." I fished for Crappie a bit on Ouachita in the 70's and early 80's but it sounds like it has really changed since then. We live about 4 miles from Carpenter Dam and I am asking around to learn about Hamilton and Catherine. Next week I'm going (w/ the 10 year old) to fish a bit on Middlefork and a couple big ponds.
OK, enough babbling.... I gots to go get rid of several years of non-use gunk from my dad's bass boat and finish putting my own 5 Hp (goes on a 12' johnboat)back together!

Thanks y'all.
'quick tale.... When I moved to W. Monroe, LA in '89 I started hearing about the big BIG "perch" caught in the area. Man was I excited... 1, 1-1/2 pound PERCH?!?! wow!!! Then I learned that they call crppie "perch" in LA... or "sacolet" (pronounced sack'-oh-lay)...
And yep, I got to admit that Nimrod lake always gave me a chuckle....
Thanks for the welcomes.
Tommy
Nimrod Lake was in its prime back in the early 70's. But don't think that it doesn't produce some slab crappie still. The natural structure has long since disappeared except for some huge cypress stumps on the creek and river channels. By fishing a little manmade structure quality fish are still caught...

CATCH A BIG-UN
Hey Tommy welcome to the board from Benton, Arkansas. I get to fish Ouachita from time to time but mostly at night up near North Shore, or Navy Landing. I too have fished for perch in Monroe. My dad used to take me fishing on Black Bayou in the very early 80's and me and one of my best friends growing up used to paddle a flat bottom around setting out yo-yo's at night on the cypress on Desiard. We caught perch and cats almost every night we went fishing. I still remember seeing gator eyes and will always remember a not so friendly nutria visit in the boat one nightI hope it works out so you can find a good spot to take the kids fishing and if you can ever get away for one of those hot summer nights, let me know.

Welcome I fish with Nimrod on Nimrod from time to time! Around here in Central Ar, I bank fish a lot. I have a 9 year-old that is autistic, so I know what you deal with.
Man that's some memories I can relate to. Seeing a "vee" headed your way while standing hip deep duck hunting... was always beaver of nutria rat.... I always wondered, ".. maybe it's a mutant cold-water 'gator?!?"Originally Posted by DeepThoughts

I'm just now putting out feelers for places to bank fish for me and munchkin #1 (10 years old). Our autistic son is almost 8, and fishing with him seems "right-out" for now. I have a 12' john boat, but Ouachita is too windy and Hamilton is crazy-crowded after 0900. I'm trying to learn a bit about Lake Catherine and Nimrod nowadays, and a couple creeks close by.Originally Posted by Slabless
