    Default Nimrod update

The Crappie fishing is slowing down. I was catching 14 to 20 keepers each morning. Sunday morning I had 8 keepers and a bass. Also broke off a nice Catfish and released a small Flathead. The few that hit jigs bit solid ,but getting fewer. It's about time for baiting catfish holes. Anyone wanting to catch a bunch for the freezer this is the month for catfish.

I would like to come to Nimrod and try some catfishing. What are you using to bait your holes? I have used soured wheat in the past on Conway and have had good sucess. Also, where would be some good places on Nimrod to bait?

We use soured wheat or sweet feed. Try on a channel drop. If you have access to a lot of wheat cheap we might work out a trip.

The longer you bait the holes the better they get. The catalpa worms will be big enough in about mid June. I need to start baiting a few days ahead ,but it will start drawning the day it's put out. The wheat needs to be soured in buckets with water to work best. I use sweet feed alot but when we use a 50 lb sack a day it gets expensive. I will be able to go anytime you wish except 6-15-07. Will PM my # if you wish to talk.:D

The catfish are starting from what I've heard. I went Crappie fishing for about 2.5 hours this morning . They were hitting about 7 to 9' of water on Black/Chartruse jigs. I kept 9 nice ones from 10 to 14 '' . Had more fish than we needed for a good mess. Released a bunch of short fish. Couple of the better fish had problems. One had his tail over half chewed off ! Another had a large lump on it's side behind a gill plate. The lump must be a tumor as it was soft and cottony white inside.
If I have time the plan is to start baiting Catfish this week. After work as I start a job in the morning.

After you sour the grain, how do you put it in the lake: just dump it in loose, put it in a burlap bag and sink it or how? Thanks in advance.
