    Default crappie on chicot

    Ok,
here is a pic of my dad & I holding our catch from yesterday. We fished fairly hard for these, but we only fished from 8-12noon. again, we caught twice this many, and most were 9 1/2er's that we had to throw back. We fished on docks that were in 6-8 feet of water to get these. if we got any shallower, we couldn't get a hit. we caught a lot of those little striped bass too... (i think they are actually yellow bass) Anyway, these were all caught on minnows tightlined on the docks, or on some off shore brushpiles in 12-15' of water, same thing, tightlined minnows.

Again, we had a great time camping. I got a healthy dose of "boy-i'mgontelyawhat" from my uncle johnny, who is a character. great food, breakfast that would make your cholesterol soar (pork fat rules!!), and stories of how great things used to be, and how they used to tear up the crappie on lake chicot. I particularly get a kick out of every one talk about how poor of health they are in & how much medicine they are on. They consistantly try to "one-up" each other on "well-I'mgontelyawhat"..."if you think that's a lot of medicine".... We had a great time. We do this trip every year on the weekend before memorial day down on chicot. I'm gonna try to get these guys to come to the fall crappie camp just to entertain everyone.

Sounds like you guys had a great trip. I would love to have a nightstalk "weekend" down there during the spawn....

Man, I bet y'all had a great time. I love to listen to the old timers talk about "the good old days"

Good to see families out together. That what fishin is all about. Young and old. My best fishin buddy is my Dad.

Them little yeller bass will definately wear you out, but at least they will always knock the fire out of it. And boy-i'mgontelyawhat...those ol' oxbows, including Chicot, can be really tough crappie fishin' when the weather gets hot.
