In the spring when water temps get toward 60 degrees, straight jigs will work just as good as minnows. In the fall gnats tipped with minnows will catch larger
fish. In winter when the water temps are in the 40s to low 50s straight minnows will out catch anything. Summer time, you will not beat crankbaits. That has
been my experience over the last 10 years.
