    Talking Paradise Lake

Well folks, I'v been reading your messages for months and finally decided to sign up. You provide some great information and more than enough laughs. Thanks for both. I meet some folks from Mississippi last weekend to visit Paradise Lake for the first time in about 18 years. It's farther down the river and through the woods than I had remembered, but was worth the trip. We spent the first afternoon searching the east bank with only 2 keepers. Both were caught on a white slates jig suspended about 5 feet down in 9 feet of water. We moved over to the west side about 6 oclock and hung about 18 yo-yos. We caught 6 keepers on the yo-yos and 1 on a roadrunner. All were on the outside of the trees. The yo-yos also produced more than enough catfish.

On the second morning we went back to the west bank and fished the outside of the trees catching 7 on the slaters jig (tip with a shiner) most of which came from one large fallin willow. The jig bite went away, so we went back to the willow and caught 13 more on shiners. I would not have believed it, if I hadn't seen it, but there was a current that developed in the lake. Guess it was because the river was backing into the lake and they completely stopped biting by noon.

All the fish we caught were keepers, 1 to 2 lbs. There are no shortage of gar in this lake either.

Nothing better than getting to fish with great friends. Only wish my wife could have went, but she had to go to school.

Wow, that got long winded. Hope everyone is still awake.

Welcome aboard Arkie. I love me some Paradise. I don't think I will be able to make a trip down there this year but definately some of the better fishing in the state (in my opinion anyway). Keep up the posts and get some pictures posted too...

Glad you signed-up, Arkie. Thanks for a great post about your weekend. Sounds like y'all found some nice fish, but that current sure can make things tough. Never been there, but I've wanted to go for a long time. And just in case you need any tips, I found out this past weekend that I'm a gar catchin' machine.:D :p

Welcome to the site Arkie, and thanks for the report on Paradise. I've fished it a few times and it is a long way down there, but I've never hit them good. I'm always a day late, boy you should have been here yesterday. Several people at work did good there this past weekend too.

    A bad day of fishing
beats a good day at work.

Arkie, welcome to the boards, they got lots of good peeps on the Arkansas board. When there's nothing happening on the La. board I come over here to check and see how its going up north.
You can't fish with a hung line!

Hey Arkie what part of the state are you in, and what lakes do you fish.

Thanks to all for the welcome.

L.A. Stumpjumper, I live in Cabot and usually fish in either Conway or Pickthorne. Several years ago, I aways fished under the hwy 89 bridge in Mayflower, but now spend most of my time around Gold Creek. Pickthorne can produce some nice fish, but I haven't been there this year. I ventured over to Peckerwood last year, but can't figure that place out. The yo-yo fisherman must love that lake, because theres a yo-yo hanging from nearly every limb and the lake doesn't seem to to regulated by the AGFC. Thanks again, maybe I'll run into you on the water.

Peckerwood was really hot last fall, up until they closed it for duck season. I didn't get to go but am going to try it this fall if it is hot.
