Default And the multi-species award goes to...

Apparantly me! I had a great couple days on the water, but the crappie just weren't doing it for me. I caught a ton of other species though...

I put the boat in at Cane Creek around 6:30 on Friday. After huntin' the crappie down, I picked up two nice males. Them suckers were the darkest crappie I've ever seen in my life. Stayed after dark to try to lure some in...but no luck at all. I also had a couple dozen yo-yos set out with no luck at all. I packed it in around 11pm and headed for bed.

Got up Sat morning and headed to M. Point to meet Stumpjumper. This was only my 2nd time to be on this lake. When I put in, I didn't see his truck (which he had done switched trucks on me so I couldn't recognize him:D). So, I headed what seemed like 10 miles down the lake to the lower end. I started fishing where we had started the last time I was there. I immediately caught one crappie, and thought...hmm...this is gonna be a good day. Well, one small crappie later, I decided to start fishing down towards the very lower end of the lake. I caught all kinds of fish...stayed busy every minute of the morning. Just no crappie...but I caught flatheads, channels, yellow bass, bucket-mouths, alligator gar, drum, and just about every other species in the lake except any bream. I also tried the shallow brushpiles, and broke about 5 fish off. I saw one, and it had to be about a 6lb largemouth. I definately need some heavier line out there next time...:D At about 12:30pm, I see Stumpjumper headin' up the lake towards me. They had wore 'em out on the very lower end, where I hadn't been yet. I'm still kickin' myself for not riding all the way down there to begin with...but oh well. When I got to the lower end, I picked up two 2lb crappie pretty quick, but then just slowed down to a crawl. I started the day with 4 or 5 dozen rosies, and ended the day with 1 single rosie. I ended up with about 8 keeper crappie for the day...and I released about 60 other "trash fish"...:D Therefore, I'm going to start working on a "revenge" post here before long...

    Jet black Cane Creek crappie...

Cane Creek...what a beautiful lake at night...except for the mosquito factor...

Looks like you had a great weekend despite your catch being off the norm. Glad you were able to boat you a goo. Normaly that is my species of choice.

We did ok on the Little Maumelle this weekend. Would have been better if not for the boat races. The condo that Raker made was producing very well Saturday morning.

Ceb; That's sounds like my trip Friday! I had 8-10 bream, 1 bass, 3 goo, 1 buffalo, and 6 bar fish (yellow bass?). The only difference was I didn't catch ANY crappie! Those males are as black as I've ever seen!! Cane Creek looks like my kind of fishing hole! Glad you got on some anyway!

Ceb, sorry to hear that you didn't get on them. Sounds like the last couple of times I went. Buddy fished one day and caught good fish. I fish the exact same place the next day using the same jigs at the same depth and nothing. I am going to go back deep along the channel edges. Maybe I will catch a few more fish...Rick

Hey Skipper, I guess we can split that multi-species award...:D Just roughly adding it up...I'd figure that I had 10 crappie, 10 catfish, 15 gar, 4 goo, 2 largemouth, and about 30 yellow bass...That's a lot of work! Them gar would come by and just slam the pole. All of them were big gar, probably 5lb apiece. It was all I could do just to hold 'em with those 13' poles and 8lb line...:D

And Rick...at least it can't get much worse. I hope you get some revenge this week as well...I know I'm going to put a hurt on 'em...

A guy I talked to in Hurricane Sat had you beat!

He caught a rainbow trout in Honey lake!

Would not have believed it if I he had not showed it to me!

My partner caught about an 8 lb buffalo for our "off" fish!

Thats gotta be the blackest one I've seen as well. Nice pic of the trees in water. Looks like crappie heaven.
Good things come to those who bait.

I have never in my life seen crappie that dark.
I think if it was me I would just follow LA Stumpjumper around.
I love the last picture with you holdin up the two crappie. All that pic needs is a margarita and maybe Jimmy Buffet in the background. Nice...

Some great pics Chris, at least you got to catch most of Arkansas' species. I'll keep you posted on MP and we'll try it again.

    A bad day of fishing
beats a good day at work.

    Jerry
