    Default Conway in July...

Well...at least that's what it felt like out there today. There wasn't much breeze at all over the entire day, and it was HOT on the lake. I have my official first sunburn of the year to prove it.:D I got out there at about 9:30am and started jiggin' a visible brushpile. Within a couple of minutes, I caught a nice 1lb 13oz hawg. Couldn't catch another but had a few bites. As the sun rose higher under the very clear skies (supposed to be cloudy today ), I decided that the skinny water wasn't going to work today. I then started slo-trollin' the creek back up towards the pond. Didn't pick any up in the creek. Once I got to the pond, I found a pretty good school of crappie, but only the smaller ones were biting. As of noon or so, I had caught about 25 fish but only 6 or 7 keepers. Meet up with Helmslaw and he brought me a sonic burger (appreciate the food...Goocher used to bring some food every now and then...but not any more:D). We headed back into the pond to find those smaller crappie that I was catching earlier, and they had picked back up pretty good since I had left. We caught lots of fish, but probably had 1 keeper for every 2 throwbacks. Probably caught a total of 70 crappie including throwbacks. We came out a little before dark with I'm guessing around 30 crappie. And just so you know Gooch, Helmslaw has put a bid in for my new fishing partner. He even ran that ol' whore of a motor without killing it.

The fish were suspended at about 5' over 10-12' of water. A few nice crappie hit a jig without a minnow, but most wanted the rosies on a bare hook. Water temp was in the low 60s, but I don't think the fish are in the creek yet. Maybe the bigger ones are in the creek, but just not biting as well???

Hey, Helmslaw, get a pic of the catch if you can. I can't believe I didn't take any pics out on the water...oh well, we'll just have to make a repeat showing. The one pic that I did get was of my first true double on the same pole at the same time. Actually I got two doubles today...what are the chances of that. The second double was a pair of 7" dinks, so it wasn't nearly as exciting.

One keeper and one dink caught on the multiple hook rig...Although the dink came off the hook while I was trying to get the camera out.
