Thread: I can't keep condos from blowing over!

Bamboo condos are hard to keep upright! I have tryed nailing stakes around the bucket, tying them to tree's, bungeeing them to the ground, what else can I do?
Jerry and Darryl's method seemed to work for them but I have a hard time getting stakes to go far into our solid rock here in NW Arkansas!
Does anyone have any Ideas? It is windy here 95% of the time!

Started dropping con last week nailed a wooden X on bottom of bucket before i poured the crete, keeps it from tilting.

Yeah, I heard that about rocks here. Buckets blew over bungee cording bamboo to trees? We"ve had had some good winds though. How tall are your condos J.T.? You almost need bucket size holes to put them in but then we"re back to the rock problem Hum.

Try using a bucket with lid on it, lay it on its side then drill holes or cut a wide slot in the side longways, place the Boo in it and pour the quickcreat in. Place about 4 flat slats on the sides. It will not roll and it will cover twice as much area as the stand up buckets.

Made one out a cardboard box several weeks ago, casting pvc in the bottom and crossed. Picture is attached. Rebar can be placed afterwood if you feel the pvc is not strong enough.Can adjut this to however you make your boo condos. I made one today just to drop down below our dock..kind of a local condo using heavy cement block with wood sticking upward..will take pics tomorrow and post. For that one I cut an oak slat from a pallet in half, turned the block over on it's side, then screwed the half-slats into the the upward-pointing wood..could also be done by setting the block on the slats (with a good-sized screw attached to the slats projecting upward and then place the sakrete.

What CrappieHusker saying should work, what I would do is go down to the local lumber yard and see if you could get a few pallets,(the 4x4 ones) cut the centers out the size of the buckets and nail the pallets together. It should give you enough height and weight to keep the buckets from falling over.

here is an idea grease the bucket with axle grease so concrete will gome out after it hardens. place bucket in center of sheet of plywood, screw the bucket from the inside ,to plywood with sheet rock screws. after condo is set up tilt condo on its side to slide it out of greased bucket. then you can start all over. the sheet of plywood and bucket can be used over and over.
even better if you rip the ply wood in half first, lay the two halves out like a cross, screw them togather with sheet rock screws. place bucket just below sross piece so you can remove the screws holding the cross peice after it sets up so you can easily turn it on its side.this is all theory but I think it should work well, and plywood base and bucket can be reused many times, 1/2 " ply wood should be heavy enough.

Or put an X out of rebar through the bucket before you pour the quick crete in the bucket...So it doesnt tip.... just my 2cents...

if i am reading your question right, you are having trouble with them standing upright while you are building them. what i did last weekend was put my bucket down inside a 55 gal. drum and my trash can ( the big green kind the county gives us) it kept the cane from spreading out too much and they didn't blow over in the 20+ mph winds.

i made some shorter ones and used a chain and rachet strap between 2 big oaks about chest high, stuck the cane in the buckets and put a bungee cord around the cane attached to the strap/chain while it dried.

that wind was blowing so bad i had to improvise on the fly.

gotta get em in the lake this weekend.
