    Default Bull Shoals

Wife and I took the boat to Bull Shoals today. It ran great, we fished for 4 hours and did not get a single bite. Water temp was 45 even in the coves, wind wasn't bad. I was suprized as how fast the boat was. But when it got up on plane, it started to porpus, you know, kind of an up and down roll. Any ideas what causes it? It has the planer wings on the out board, but even so it was too heavy in the stern to get up unless we moved some weight to the bow. Then wow, but had to slow back down when it started the up and down roll. But anyhow it was a great day on the lake. Found a few places where condos may go well.

To stop the porpoising trim your motor in and shift so weight to the bow. do you have power trim?

Glad the boat ran well for you. The porpoising problem should be fairly easy to solve, but those crappie are a different story. On that lake, you need some boo piles to attract the crappie. Concentrate on getting you several spots ready. Try to position them according to wind directions.

Fly you might want to see about an aftermarket tilt and tim unit. Does a great job. Gives you a jack plate and trim. Trim is a funny thing. Needs to be at one spot when you are running and another when not running hard.

My boat is a 1452 with a 40hp tiller Yamaha with no trim. Put a aftermarket tilt and trim on it and she is a rocket ship. Motor is 7" back and 3" up and when I run flat out and trimed up she runs like a top. Easy to drive, better gas milage, goes faster..............

I agree with Slipcork, I couldn't get by without my tilt and trim on my stick steering. The right angle of tilt makes the steering stick totally neutral. I have gone all the way down the lake just leaning my body to make the boat turn!
