I have an Aqua View camera with LED lights that I can hook up to my Lowrance Gen2 screen and in VERY clear lakes you can see a few feet in front of it, 4 or 5 feet, but you can see structure and fish but even in very clear fresh water lakes you can only see at the very best a few feet in front of it. I've actually used it in Lake Conway before and as I expected there is way too much particulate in the water to see more than a few inches literally. I also scuba dive and you can actually see farther diving than you can with a camera but don't be confused even in the clearest fresh water lakes you still can't see anything remotely like you can in the say the Caribbean where you can see fairly well to say a 100 feet. I hardly ever use my camera because it's too much of a pain to set up ect. for what you can see. I have used it before to try and identify what I was seeing on my graph that I couldn't tell what it was and have been surprised by certain types of microscopic plant life, I guess, that you could drag a jig through with no resistance and nothing comes up on your line or jig, but it was there. I would have sworn it was a ball of bait fish on my graph. Apart from that I think you'd be very disappointed with an under water camera.
