Many years ago, there was a great crappie run at a local lake. No size or possession limits back then. We used a locally made plastic bait and usually caught all we wanted to mess with. Color was chartreuse 75% of the time, occasionally yellow and rarely white. Several times these artificials outfished minnows. One time I remember my dad and I were catching a fish every cast and had a boat full of minnow fishermen pull up right on top of our spot. Dad was bouncing his jig off their boat and catching fish out from under them. I don't remember their minnows catching a thing. I always think about that when the bite is slow and I consider minnows.

I wouldn't have been able to keep my mouth shut, I would have had those guys so p__sed off at me that they would have shot me.
