JT.......not to intrude, but I wanted to show y'all another condo that myself and another member of the LA board put together. Watch the construction sites, you'll be surprised how much PVC they discard. It will keep the cost down. Here's a few links to the photos......they won't rot and will be there for a very long time, and will be almost snag-proof.
This is the finished condo except for painting, (dark green) it will make it easier for the algea to stick. We used 4 inch PVC as the main beam.

We used anti corrosive screws to hold the 1/2 inch pvc from moving. Screw them in from the side angling to the inside the pipe. Drill the holes each 1/4 turn of the big pipe for the 1/2 inch so that it looks like an "X" looking at it from the end. Drill all your holes in a straight line all the way thru both sides so the 1/2 inch will form the "X." Tie some heavy scrap metal on each end and in the center so current won't move it.
