    Default New to Crappie Fish'n

Greetings from North Arkansas. I'm new to crappie fishing and have a lot to learn. I am an accomplished fly fisher and fly tyer, and used to fish the White River regularly. Health prevents wading fast water now. I am in the process of buying a boat. I have fished Reelfoot Lake in TN 4 times, but never very successfully. I have a lot to learn, but I also have a lot to share. I have fished salt and fresh water all my life, having grown up in Florida. You all sound like a great bunch to get to know. I'll let you know when I get the boat, should be fairly soon.
If you're too busy to go fishing, you're too busy!

Welcome to the board. I am sure your fly tying skills will not be wasted on the crappie when you start kicking out your own crappie jigs.

Try and make it to one or both of the Crappie Camps. Great place to meet and greet fellow anglers and catch a few slabs to boot.

Thanks, say, what is this night stalk? Can a guy just show up at the feed and meet some of you guys? If I understand the map, I would get off at the Mayflower exit, head north on 365, cross the bridge and take the first dirt road to the right after the bridge. Feed starts around 1600 right?

Sure you can show up eat and shoot the bull with us. Dont know why you wouldnt just jump in a boat with one of us and go out for a few hours though. There will be a number of open spots in boats and you are more than welcome to join us. We have planned from the start to have a number of non boaters at this event so we are ready for you. Should be a great opportunity to see some different rigs and setups, so you will have some ideas of things you want when you start setting up your boat.

Looks like you have the directions right on the button

Here is a link to an artical on nightstalkin written by one of the guys off crappie.com to get you up to speed on the subject.

Welcome to the board, Fly. There's a lot of good info on this website. And there are several folks here that religiously use flyrods for crappie fishing. They should be along shortly.

And you are more than welcome to join us at Lake Conway on saturday. That would be a great start to your quest for crappie knowledge...

    Howdy
It sounds like you are from one of my favorite places in the state. I love to put in at Norfork and float down river all day on the White. I do it at least twice a year. I love catching them trout too. All I do is drag apower bait behind me. That flyfishing looks like too much work.

Nah, flyfishing is not a lot of work. You just need a good teacher. I could have you casting 30-50 feet in less than 1 hour. In 1997 I was chosen by FFF as "Teacher of the Year". Glad to share any knowledge I have about fly fishing in fresh or salt. I love to fish salt water with a fly rod. Catching a speckled trout in a shallow bay is like nothing else. They have only one good run in them, but it is like hooking a moving truck bumper.

What time should I be there, and should I bring one spin cast and one crappie pole?

We plan on cooking at about 16:00 and heading out for the nightstalk about 17:00. We will nightstalk until somewere in around the 22:00 hour depending on the bite of the fish and wind. Bring you a couple of poles and some warm clothing. We will pretty much just be fishing with minnows under a split shot weight, so you dont need a tackle box. We will have a rover boat who is familar with the waters that will be able to take you back to the ramp when your ready or if you need to leave early to get back home.
