    Default Pulling cranks question

Those of you who pull cranks, what speed do you typically go and what type of weights are used? I currently am running 2 oz weights but think that may be a little much.
    Thanks all

i don't use weights. i only pull from the back. most weights are used for pushing from what i understand, never pushed so far. i generally run 1.5 to2.0 at 50 to 150 feet with 300 series bandits or equals behind my boat depending on the depth and what i see on my h'bird..

+1 on what he said. Weights used for pushing from front of the boat.

The above comments are absolutely correct. If you are pulling cranks I recommend downloading the app to your phone precision trolling. It tells you based on the type of crank bait, lb. test line and speed how much line to let out the back to get cranks down to desired depth. The app helps you not waste a lot of time guessing and trying to figure out the correct depth at what speed etc. I use 1.5oz and 2 oz weights when I am pushing cranks only. Good rule of thumb is faster speed bigger weight needed. I use a 1.5oz up to 1.2 mph to keep my lines vertical while pushing then if I need to move faster go up to 2 or even 3 oz weights if my boat speed is 2+mph. If you font have I-Pilot or I-5 Motor Guide trolling motor pushing is easier for 1 man to manage. Great fun either way. Good luck

Get the Precision Trolling app. It explains drop weights, keel weights, and line outs to depth. It's the best learning tool you can get for Crank Bait fishing.

Here's a small sample of what the app offers. It has 100's of crank baits listed. It also shows the depth curves of all the different size weights for both the keel weights and the snap weights.

I try to stay between 1.6 and 1.8 I use 3 oz weights to push cranks but no weights on the rods I pull with. Like the others have said get the app or a chart that show how deep the cranks that you use are running. The mistake most make is running their bait too deep.

Size: 134.5 KB You do not need weights to pull with unless you want to go deeper than 17 ft.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.
