I have caught 5 crappie in the past 10-12 years. I just finished frying them up for my brother and I. They were all 10 inches long and I was very glad to have caught them. I never was one for filleting crappie as I think a lot of the flavor is in the skin. We thoroughly enjoyed every little morsel. Maybe we should have handicaps for crappie fisherman like golfers have. If you are a really good crappie fisherman you only get to keep the 14 or 15 inch fish. If you are a really bad crappie fisherman like me then you get to keep the 10's. At my current harvest rate I don't think I will be a threat to any of our fisheries. I will probably die from old age before I catch another mess.
