    Default Nimrod small cappie

Went to nimrod saturday. The bite was fair to good for us. We caught fish in 20ft of water and we caught em in 3ft of water. We ended up keeping 30 but we prolly caught 60-70. I've seen a lot of discussion about the small crappie in lake nimrod so I did a little research of my own. We kept a few really small fish and we had several that were about a pound. When we cleaned these fish everyone of them were full of small shad. Even the really small ones had a belly full. Some of the fish even had the tails of small shad sticking out of there throat. This leads me to believe that maybe the fish have plenty to eat. I think nimrod has had a very good spawn and obviously a lot of crappie.

What are you calling small Crappie and did you see all the bait balls of Shad ? Most of the Shad we see everyday are not real small . Photos will be good on your next report . thanks . It is better right now but these Shad grow fast and we historically have a slow growth compared to other area lakes according to our AGFC personel who do the testing ?

This is what we caught. The smallest fish were about 6-7 inches.

Right now things are good right now but with the high water till August it was basically like having a new lake .When all those small Bass and Crappie from this huge spawn of this year eat up the small bait fish it will change unless we have another one . The millions of small fish will eat themselves out of house and home sorta speak . This years spawn is what will really suffer and you did not catch those .

Looks like you drug in a descent looking mess of fish . The Bass fishing has been extremely good this year .
