Dardanelle has small Shad ( 1'' or so) which I suppose are Threadfin by the billions , never see the real small ones here in the winter. Ones here now all over the lake look 3 to 4 '' .

Despite what some guys think a crappie can eat a 3 to 4 inch shade, I've seen it. So maybe the crappie will be fine?

The bigger ones yes but the yearlings no . A couple years ago I started finding 5 and 6'' Crappie in the bigger ones and figgured the Shad were getting too big maybe ?

Do the shad decide to live morally when the water temp gets to 45 degrees in hopes of being spared? You might want to double check your spelling if you are going to call out others bud.

I understand the problem. CA and I have discussed it before. If a lake is overpopulated, then more need to be removed. Increased limits help. But so does a concentrated effort to remove a lot more smaller fish in order to leave more forage to support a healthy population. I, too, enjoy catching larger fish, but I won't complain about too many small fish if I'm unwilling to harvest the smaller fish. Smaller fish will never reach maximum growth in an over populated body of water. I'm not trying to insult anyone, but I just don't see how refusing to keep small fish will ever help the resource.

Why don't they net some of them and use to stock other lakes? Seems like a net is the only way to get rid of a bunch of small ones if nobody is going to keep them.

I'm a pro with a filet knife. My uncle always says as long as you can't read the newspaper through em, they'll eat. Doing my part!

Took reading it several times to spot the misspelled word . We have fun kidding folks on some misspelled words . ''Striper is one some type Stripper . '' Guess I need to put on my glasses to proof read before hitting post button .

I don't keep most of my fish but give them away . Easier to giveaway a limit of good fish . Not many willing to take a limit of dinks .
