I have owned several 9.9's and I'd say that the estimate is pretty close. One of my most prized possessions. I'll sic the dog on anybody gets to looking sticky fingered around that thing.I know the four strokes are the future, and I know they are quiet and sip gas.But I'm from the muscle car era and I still like me some basic low tech horsepower.

Nothing like the smell of two stroke exhaust in the morning
I've got an 86 model Nissan that I use for duck hunting and small lakes. Starts every time on 3rd pull. And that motor is fast.

I've had a couple of other motors and you could not give me another one. I've got an Evinrude 4 hp that sits in the shed because it's hard to start.

Second the praise for the 2 stroke nissans. I have a 9.9 and an 18. the 9.9 has been boosted to 15 and runs like my 18. Takes a 20 dollar cam on the throttle plate which requires 2 screws and about 10 minutes to boost it. Start right up but see little use after the 25 etec and 20 horse merc arrived. They are as good but don't have enough boats to put them on or places to park them. Besides Teresa can count good enough to notice a new rig. Hard enough for a working man to keep 5 boats running without having stale gas. Boats too.

I have '68 model 10hp evinrude. Starts with 2 pulls everytime. My dad got it from his uncle, he bought it new. I keep expecting that it will quit on me anytime but it just keeps on running.
