    I had noticed that we hadn't actually answered you original question, so here it goes. If I do the things I mentioned, find out who's catching them, how and on what, and where, then I have a trip that sucks about 25% of the time. If I don't do that it increases substantially. That's also because I go to a lot of lakes and don't have a home lake that I've fished almost exclusively as some do. Having a home lake that you learn inside and out and in every way possible I think increases your success rate substantially as well.

    It has obviously worked well for Nimrod, he "rarely has bad days on his home lake". I guess it's just a matter of putting in the time !
