    Default Trolling Motor Advice

Just finished putting a plywood mounting deck on the front of my 14 foot jon boat where I am going to mount a foot controlled trolling motor and my Lowrance HDS 7.

Would like advice on which trolling motor to purchase. Mostly fish Lake Conway and Ark. River. Have been using hand controlled 30 lb. thrust Minn Kota for years and it does ok, but was thinking of going up to 45 lb thrust with foot control.

Also, any suggestions on shaft length - particularly with all the hidden stumps in Lake Conway

    Thanks for any advice.

    Paul

MinnKota Maxxium 55 pound thrust. It has a break away spring shaft. It works great on stumpy lakes like Conway. You can thank me later.

I have seen it work on Matt's boat twice in the past week. Pretty cool technology, but it will scare the mess out of you the first time it happens!

I checked it out and I am impressed. how about shaft length. I just have a small Jon boat.

36" shaft length...don't get too long a shaft--it just gets in the way.

I think mine is a 42" shaft. It is on a 16' boat. It works for me.

probably better to get one a bit long than too short. I don't fish in large waves though.
