Be careful is right. I don't know how many times I've seen guys trying to get the treble hooks out of a fish while the pole is almost bent double with tension on the lure. One slip or flop of the fish and that sucker can come out with a vengeance and set the hook in your hand, fingers, face, or head. Or maybe both hands at the same time. Who knows.
This may sound lame but I fish mostly by myself and I'm afraid of something like that happening. I started using one of those catfish grippers when fishing by myself. Makes it a lot easier to control them.

tell be bout it cray, i have done it twice with a crankbait fishing by myself. you ain't had fun til you load your boat by yourself, drive all the way home, unloaded the boat and head to minor emergency. i now want get close to a fish with a treble in it's mouth...Quote:

I had not even thought about this. I am going to put a first aid kit in my boat now with some side cutting pliers. Thanks Creekslick for sharing the information. I know that man was glad you helped him. Probably saved him a trip to the emergency room and a bunch of money.
Scrat, I learned that the hard way back in April when I got a jig hook stuck in my finger, and had to drive back to the ramp and get some cutters from my toolbox. Luckily the hook went all the way through but had no cutters. They immediately went into my tackle box. I bet alot of people hadn't thought of it until reading this thread!
